چکیده

Abstract The paper presents the concept of a low-power, low-area, near-lossless image compressor for resource-constrained devices such as wireless capsule endoscopy (WCE). directly processes raw data from Bayer Color Filter Array (CFA) imager to avoid high cost color interpolation. To improve efficiency in terms energy consumption, silicon area and compression ratio, main part compressor, i.e., entropy encoder, uses existing correlations between components captured CFA image. proposed requires only 12.4% memory needed by other high-quality compressors based on JPEG-LS standard. Despite this significant reduction size, outperforms state-of-the-art coding schemes images. At same time, it offers slightly lower performance standard test has been implemented an intellectual property (IP) core using two different low-cost CMOS processes. design, UMC 180 nm process, very low (534 $$\times $$ × 426 $$\upmu μ m $$^{2}$$ 2 ) consumes (22 J per single 512 frame). Even higher (12 frame) IP TSMC 130 process. Both selected technologies are well-suited implement radio frequency transmitter low-power successive approximation register analog-to-digital converter addition provide cost-effective System Chip like WCE or camera sensor network.
